Verse:Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; Whoever believes will not act hastily.” —Isaiah 28:16, NKJV
Some years ago, my close friend Shirley lived in a building where there was an apartment above her. When a new neighbor moved in overhead, renovation began in that upper-floor unit. One day, Shirley was walking toward her kitchen.
Suddenly, she was amazed to see a concrete stone drop from the ceiling of her kitchen —just over by the windows. Fortunately, she was alone at home and not under the large stone when it fell through her ceiling.
This astounding event started her wondering, How can a concrete stone just drop through a kitchen ceiling? As she visualized the astounding scene she had witnessed, she was reminded about the second coming of Jesus Christ.
Daniel saw “a stone” in a vision that he referred to as Christ’s kingdom, and it was “cut out without hands” (Daniel 2:34, NKJV).
The stone in the prophet’s vision came in the context of worldly kingdoms (represented by various metals in a great image) that would rise and fall until Christ’s kingdom was forever established. The stone represents Christ, the Son of man, coming “in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him... He will sit on the throne of His glory” (Matthew 25:31, NKJV). Shirley’s experience led her to maintain a daily relationship with Christ, making things right with Him, abiding in Him (John 15:5), and accepting Him as her personal Savior, Redeemer, Intercessor, Advocate, and High Priest.
She resolved to live a godly life within a saving relationship with Him, by God’s grace, mercy, and compassionate love.
No matter what happens, my friend now knows Christ will surely come again (Revelation 22:20). More important, she knows she must be ready for Him every day —as must we.
