It Started with a Song

It was Communion Sabbath, and I was feeling emotional.

For many months, my husband had been having ill-health, and we were at a loss of what to do. The special music began, and while I was listening, the most amazing thing happened to me. The song faded, and I felt God reminding me of all the times Jesus was with my husband and how He carried him through so many health crises.

Then I saw what I felt was the future and also a time in my past when I was in trouble and Jesus was with me and got me through it.

Then I could hear the song again. It was truly a remarkable experience. I started crying, feeling the assurance of how God is with us no matter what problems we face. Five nights later, I dreamed that my husband had gotten up from bed and fallen. In my dream, he said he forgot he didn’t have a foot! The next morning when I awoke, my husband had a high fever, and his foot did not look well.

After a visit to the emergency room, he was admitted to a major hospital. Four days later, he had surgery for a below-the-knee amputation on his right leg. The surgeon found a bone infection that was traveling up his leg.

Within two days of the amputation and prescribed antibiotics, my husband looked like a new man! He had color to his cheeks, was smiling, and was out of pain. We praised God that he was getting well after so many months of being so sick.

We know God was preparing me for what was to come so that I could be my best for the man I love. God carried us through this experience that also included setbacks. Eight months after the amputation, my husband was able to walk again with the help of a prosthetic leg. The support and prayers we received during this time were such a source of strength and encouragement for both of us. God’s promises are real.

I am so thankful for a loving God who not only prepares us for the hard things we face but also walks with us every moment of every day.
