Verse:And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. —Philippians 4:7, KJV
It was Friday afternoon, and I was running a few errands before the coming sunset. I was at my next-to-last stop —gassing up the car.
The autumn air was somewhat brisk, and the sunshine delightful.
With the tank full and the transaction complete, I started the car to make my final stop and head home. Surprisingly, the start of the car produced sounds totally unfamiliar to me: fluttering and misfiring never heard before.
What should I do? I pulled out of the station, stopped in a nearby spot, and began to pray. It was reassuring to ask Christ to lead me through this predicament. My next concern involved getting to church the next morning.
I was scheduled to play the piano and needed to be at the church before class began. After thanking God for a forthcoming answer, I made calls seeking a ride. Some dear friends offered to pick me up and invited me to their home for a meal after church and a delightful Bible study group after our lunch fellowship.
The day was lovely! The following Monday morning, I took my car to a repair shop. A friend took me back home while the work was being done.
Soon the shop receptionist called, saying they were finished.
All they could do was change one spark plug.
They advised me to go to the dealership for specialized attention.
I followed through and prayed that God would let the cost be financially friendly. An appointment was scheduled for the next day.
Upon arrival at the dealership, I briefly described what had happened and told the serviceman the notices that had been flashing on the dashboard.
It displayed at least three prominent repair codes.
Settling into a comfortable waiting-room seat, I prayed and then started some paperwork I brought with me. Within fifteen minutes, the serviceman came and said the car was ready. He said none of the repair indicators could be found.
He didn’t know what had happened.
Tears welled up inside as I realized what God had done for me.
I’m trying to live knowing that Christ is always with me and He’s always ready to hear and answer humble petitions. Hopefully, we will expand our prayers with thanksgiving and our trust in the One who is more than wonderful!
