Verse:The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. —Psalm 34:15, KJV
Shortly after I moved from Jamaica to Canada, I was living in British Columbia in a town named Kitimat. It was a very small town, and there was no Seventh-day Adventist church there. The closest bigger town was Terrace, which was about forty minutes away by a winding highway through the mountains.
I traveled to Terrace very often for church and also for shopping.
One day, on my return trip from Terrace to Kitimat, I was very tired and fell asleep at the wheel. My car rolled onto the rumble strips lining the side of the highway, which woke me up. As I opened my eyes, I realized that I was heading off the road as my car was approaching a bridge and quickly righted the steering wheel to get back on the road. My guardian angel was working overtime. I thanked the Lord for His watch care over me and the rush of adrenaline that enabled me to get home safely after that.
There was another time that I had stayed in Terrace after church on Sabbath and went to someone’s house for lunch and fellowship.
The sun had set very early, and it quickly became dark.
There are no lights on the highway heading back to Kitimat.
Whenever I drive, I ask the Lord for journeying mercies on the road to keep us safe from harm and danger. After a while of driving, I saw a pair of yellow eyes glowing up through the top of my windshield. I quickly applied my foot to the brake pedal as I saw the eyes moving across my line of sight and the outline of a huge moose walking across the road in front of my car. I can only imagine how devastating it would have been had I hit that moose. Another close call! A few years ago, when we were still living in Leduc and working on the north side of Edmonton, I picked up Alyssa from school and was heading home on the highway. Traffic had been very heavy, and I was exhausted.
I fell asleep at the wheel and woke up hearing the sirens of emergency vehicles. There were no emergency vehicles whatsoever anywhere at all.
The Lord had again protected us.
Thank You, Lord, for keeping us safe from all harm and danger.
