Verse:The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him. —Nahum 1:7, KJV
Tempest can be likened to or used interchangeably with blast, gale, hurricane, tornado, squall, excitement, violent commotion, or disturbance/violent windstorm. Seasons of grief and despair are usually represented by storms in the Bible; they are moments to exercise endurance until the storms pass.
The Bible provides wisdom and guidance to overcome and get through the storms of our lives while following the path of God through hard and gloomy times. Isaiah says to God, You have been a refuge for the poor, a refuge for the needy in their distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat (Isaiah 25:4, NIV).
Recounting times when storms threatened the peace of my home, I could say, “Thank You God, for Your mercies endure forever.” In 2018, my family was thrown into a hopeless situation because we couldn’t find a solution for my husband’s illness. God miraculously healed him just as the tempest was at its peak and all hope was lost. During those days, I found solace in Psalm 91:1–4, which says, Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you... He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge (NIV). May God help us to gain from our storms and tempest by putting our trust in Him!
