But Wait... I Feel Good!

Women · From the book New Every Morning

Verse:

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.” —John 3:16, NKJV

I grew up attending the Seventh-day Adventist church.

My dad was an Anglican, and my mom was a Seventh-day Adventist, but they decided before they had children that the girls would go with mom and the boys with dad. And guess what? They had four girls! So, from birth, we were taught the song about Sabbath being a happy day. As I entered my teenage years, the part of the song that proclaimed a love for Sabbath resonated with me because my mom did everything possible to make Sabbath special. She baked and cooked special dishes.

She rearranged our home and brought in special plants.

She told us that we celebrated Christmas once a week.

At the end of 2019, I began experiencing health challenges.

Doctors were unable to diagnose the problem.

With all that was going on, I realized that I would feel unwell all week, but as soon as Friday evening came, I began to feel good.

In fact, I would feel much better.

At first, I thought it was just a coincidence, but as I checked on it closely, I realized that it happened every week. This took me back to my childhood days and the love and joy I felt each Sabbath. The Sabbath became more special to me as an adult. It truly was a happy day, and I loved every Sabbath. God reminded me weekly that He loved me and had created a special day with a special blessing just for me.

When everything is going well with us, we overlook the blessings that God has in place for us. We take life for granted and overlook the mercies of God.

Sisters, we serve a loving God. Because of His love for us, He sent His only Son to die for us. He has special plans and blessings for us.

From the beginning of creation, He gave us a special day to commune, reflect, and rejuvenate. Yet often, we get so caught up in our daily chores that we don’t stop and appreciate what God has done and is doing for us.

I encourage you, sisters, to take time to enjoy the love and rest your God has prepared for you —not only on Sabbath but every day of the week.

As you fall in love again with Jesus, may you realize that it is the best thing that you have ever done, and each day walking with Him is the best day of your week.
