Verse:“In my Father’s house there’s plenty of room for everyone. If that weren’t so, I would have told you. I’m going home to prepare a place for you. And if I go to prepare a place for you, you can be sure that I’ll come back to take you home with me, so you can be with me forever.” —John 14:2, 3, The Clear Word*
One day, I went shopping for a picture frame for a cross-stitch picture I had made. It was an unusual size, and I was having trouble finding a frame.
Finally, after searching in several stores, I decided to look at pictures that were already framed, and then I found one. I purchased it, took it home, and was just ready to remove the picture and put my cross-stitch in when I read the saying in the picture. It said, “Life takes you to unexpected places; love brings you home.” Suddenly I knew I had to hang the picture just the way it was and continue searching for another frame.
I was born and raised in Topeka, Kansas.
It was home, but life had taken me to some unexpected places. I had married a pastor, and we had spent time in a number of places in different states, but love always took me back to Topeka, back home, every summer, every Christmas.
Our children have grown, married, and are raising families far from Colorado where my husband and I now live. But every summer and some holidays, they make their way to Colorado. Love brings them home.
There’s a story in the Bible about a young man who thought he wanted something his home didn’t offer, so he left. But after experiencing what the world had to offer, he knew he wanted to go back home. He made his way back home into the waiting, loving arms of his father. Because of love, Jesus left His home and came to this sin-ravaged world so we can one day go to a heavenly, forever home with Him.
When we spend time with Jesus, contemplating His love for us, our response will be a loving “I want to go home” response. As the Bible says, “Christ’s love compels us” (2 Corinthians 5:14, NIV). Spend time with Jesus every day, and that love relationship will take you home —your heavenly home.
