God’s Powerful GPS

Women · From the book Strength For The Day

Verse:

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. —Psalm 32:8, NKJV

I was invited to a banquet, along with several members of my family. I felt so excited as I prepared my best dress with coordinated shoes and purse for the event. We entered the address of the event into the GPS and then set off to the banquet.

We gave ourselves plenty of time and planned to arrive early so we could get a seat close to the front; we did not wish to miss anything. The global positioning system (GPS) is a modern-day marvel invented by the United States Department of Defense for military use. It was allowed for civilian use in the 1980s. What a day that was! Most people loved the system; it reduced the need for paper maps, and drivers no longer had to constantly turn their heads to read road signs and numbers on buildings, which were not always visible.

We followed the directions to the banqueet carefully, and soon, the GPS indicated we were close to our destination. I checked the time, and we were early, as planned. But something was definitely wrong. We kept driving for a while but did not hear that we had arrived at our destination. Did we miss the announcement? We made a U-turn and tried again, but no destination announcement. This happened several times. After a while, I suggested we turn off the GPS and do a visual search. We eventually located the address, but we were slightly late, and our ideal seats were taken. We were sorely disappointed with the GPS and were reminded that the system is man-made and prone to problems.

The Lord also has a GPS, as indicated in Psalm 32:8, our verse for today. He said, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye” (NKJV). The sixty-six books of the Bible are our GPS from God. In this world, we will feel lost and confused on our journey, but we have no need to fear. By faith, this GPS will guide us to our heavenly destination, where God is preparing a magnificent mansion and banquet for us.

There are never any errors, delays, or misinformation with God’s GPS because He is the Cartographer (the Maker of maps), Instructor, and Navigator.

All He asks of us is that we faithfully follow His GPS instructions, and we will arrive at the right place right on time!
