Healed from Breast Cancer

Women · From the book Almost Home

Verse:

And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. —John 14:13, KJV

Almost ten years ago my mother received a devastating diagnosis—cancer of the right breast. Faced with this frightening reality, she turned to us, her family, and asked for prayer. She sought God’s guidance and direction, as she was uncertain of her path. My sister, who was an administrative nurse at the time, quickly arranged for a surgical consultation. However, my mother hesitated, expressing a fear that “most people die within one year after a breast cancer operation.” Instead of rushing into surgery, she asked us to commit to a month of prayer on her behalf. With unwavering faith we prayed consistently—night and day—for an entire month. Family members, friends, and even people across the United States of America, Canada, and the Caribbean joined this prayer chain, lifting my mother to the Lord in earnest petitions for healing. At the end of that month, my mother felt a profound change. She told us, “I feel good. I want to see what is happening in my body. I want to be x-rayed.” Trusting in the power of prayer, she returned to the same doctor who had diagnosed her illness, and she requested a new X-ray examination. After the assessment the doctor was astonished. He said, “Ms. S, there is scarring on your right lung as if it has been healed.” The cancer was gone, and my mother’s body showed signs of recovery that could be explained only as divine intervention. We rejoiced and shared the incredible news with everyone who had been praying for her.

From that day forward my mother never experienced any symptoms of breast cancer again. Her healing was a powerful testament to the truth of God’s Word and the strength of fervent prayer. In James 5:16, we are reminded, “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” (KJV). Indeed God’s words are true and consistent.

This experience taught us the importance of praying without ceasing, confessing our faults, and partnering with others in prayer.

Through intense and earnest prayer, we witnessed God’s healing power firsthand, transforming my mother’s health and our entire family’s faith
