In Good Hands!

Adults · From the book The Hope Of Glory

Verse:

Bless the LORD, you His angels, who excel in strength, who do His word, heeding the voice of His word. —Psalm 103:20

I have never knowingly seen an angel.

Some people have seen glowing figures or tall beings they could only explain as being angels of heaven. I have not. But on one occasion, I thought I had met with and spoken to an angel. My journey to Washington, DC, to catch an international flight had already been interrupted by bad weather.

When our vehicle broke down at a gas station in Ohio, it was clear I was not going to make it to the airport on time. But then I saw him, a tall, tanned, bronze-bearded good Samaritan who offered to check our vehicle. He looked just like I imagined an angel in human form would be. At that moment, I knew that God had sent an angel so the story could have a happy and miraculous ending! I fully expected this angel would touch the car, and the engine would roar back to life. Surely, he would then disappear while we all looked at each other in amazement. But the car didn’t start, and the good Samaritan admitted he didn’t know much about cars. When I saw our “angel” smoking a cigarette behind the gas station, I realized I hadn’t seen an angel after all.

Some people have seen angels in this day and age, while many others have likely done so without realizing it. “Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels” (Hebrews 13:2).

These “ministering spirits” (Hebrews 1:14) are powerful, and God lifts our spirits by assuring us angels are on our side in the great battle between good and evil. Undoubtedly, just as angels ministered to God’s people in Old Testament times, the angels of heaven are busy today on missions of mercy and help.

God doesn’t leave us in this world to fend for ourselves.

The Holy Spirit is granted us for spiritual strength and to bring us the presence of Jesus, and angels who excel in strength are sent to help us.

We are in good hands!
