Verse:Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him! —Psalm 34:8
A young college student began attending a series of meetings held by the evangelist Eric Flickinger. Amy was excited about what she was learning from the Bible and occasionally would bring one of her roommates to the meetings with her. When the series concluded, she wasn’t ready to surrender her life entirely to Jesus, but her view of God and of the Bible was changing. She said, “I used to look at the Bible as a list of dos and don’ts, but now I look at it as God’s cookbook of love!” After the meetings finished, church members continued to study with her. Several months later, she made a decision to be baptized. But that’s not where the story ends.
Sometime later, Eric received the following message from the church: “Great news! Toni was baptized yesterday! It was a beautiful ceremony and a high day for the church.” Toni was Amy’s friend and had recently graduated from university. She had come to the United States from an Asian country, and just one year before didn’t believe in God, didn’t own a Bible, and had never prayed.
Toni was fascinated with the health food that church members made for the meetings she attended with Amy, and when Amy posted a picture online of some of the food she had made, Toni asked her if she would like to get together and cook.
They became good friends, and Amy invited Toni to a cooking school at the church. Toni loved it and began attending church with Amy.
Amy gave her a Bible and a box of It Is Written Bible studies, and Toni’s life began to change. She attended another series of meetings and came forward when an altar call was made. Toni not only yielded her life to Jesus but also began bringing her friends to church. Amy met Jesus and introduced Him to Toni, who then shared her new faith with others. Our privilege as followers of Jesus is to not only know Him ourselves but also to introduce Him to those who do not yet have the assurance of salvation.
