A Way of Escape

Adults · From the book The Hope Of Glory

Verse:

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. —1 Corinthians 10:13

There are 31,102 verses in the Bible.

Temptation first appears in the fifty-seventh verse.

It is an ever-present part of life. Temptation exists on supermarket shelves and magazine covers. It affects us through family, friends, and enemies.

Temptation accesses us through television, radio, music, and the internet. Temptation is everywhere, calling us to loosen our hold on God and abandon faith in Christ. But temptation does not have to get the better of you.

The apostle Paul made a remarkable statement to the Corinthians. In every temptation, there is a way of escape. When you are tempted to be angry, there is a way of escape. When lust rears its ugly head, there is a way of escape.

Even though the temptation to engage in racism, dishonesty, covetousness, or theft assails you, you need not be overcome.

God makes a way of escape available to you.

The evening we filmed an It Is Written Christmas program was especially cold. A persistent wind cut right through us as we hurried to finish and escape to warmth. The next day or even the next week weren’t viable options for filming, so we soldiered on —and shivered on. We hadn’t expected such cold weather.

My wife, Melissa, wrapped herself in a shawl and a blanket in a futile attempt to keep warm. The next morning, she discovered that her down jacket had been in our car the entire time! She was fighting cold weather while warmth was less than fifty yards away. She lost a battle she would have won if she had remembered her warm jacket was nearby. The way of escape from temptation is Jesus.

When you remember He is near and call on Him in faith, He will deliver you from temptation. Every time! Remember that there is a way of escape from every temptation.
