Verse:Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. —1 Peter 5:7, KJV
It was time to go. We had spent fourteen wonderful years as snowbirds in southern California. We had enjoyed golfing, swimming, and “hot-tubbing” in the natural hot mineral pools. We had played games with friends and had fun with our family, who were also snowbirds from various places. But now we were getting old. Our bodies were not doing what we wanted them to anymore, so one day, my husband and I sat down and decided it was time to sell our little desert home.
We set a price, which was pretty much the same as what we had paid for it. Of course, we had spent a lot of money on remodeling, but we knew that mobile homes—even sitting on the land that we owned—were not selling for much. Yet we asked the Lord that if it was His will for us to sell our place, He would send us a buyer. We placed a “For Sale by Owner” sign in the front yard, showed the place to a couple of prospective buyers, and then went to the beach for a week with two of my cousins and their husbands.
We kept praying for God’s will to be done. While we were away, our neighbor called to say that he had sold our house to a single lady who had come by. After he showed her our house, she said she was going directly to the escrow company to put down her earnest money. Our neighbor encouraged my husband to call the woman. When we returned home the following Sunday, she came by again. We discussed more details with her, and she was even more determined that she wanted to buy our place. Since it would be a year-round home for her, she felt it was just the place for her. We did have some doubts, however. The woman went by four different names and had a foreign bank account. We wondered if everything was on the level with her. However, I remembered how we had prayed for a buyer to come if it was God’s will that we sell. It appeared things were working out just the way He had planned.
Every morning, as we prepared to move, I asked God to remind me of everything I needed to do and give me the strength to do it. He definitely answered my prayers, and the day before we were to leave, escrow closed. The following day the funds were wired to our bank.
We can safely cast our cares upon Jesus. He will always see us through.
