Verse:

Abide in me , and I in you . As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself , except it abide in the vine ; no more can ye , except ye abide in me . — John 15:4 , KJV

I always anticipated the Sunday - morning Olive Press Prayer Ministry meetings . I would wake up early to join others in connecting with the Godhead through the study of the Word and standing in the gap for others who need prayer , as well as ourselves . What refreshing and rewarding experiences ! One Saturday night , before tucking myself into bed , I connected the charger to my mobile phone so it would be fully charged for the nearly two hours of prayer , praise , thanksgiving , inspirational readings , and praying over the prayer requests .

The next morning I offered the opening prayer , thanking God for the blessings He showered over us during the unconscious hours of the night . Then praise reports were given . A prayer of thanksgiving was offered , followed by a reading from the inspirational book The Desire of Ages . I read along in my copy of the book while the eloquent reader occasionally paused to explain certain portions as we progressed .

My phone speaker was on , but , all of a sudden , it went silent . The phone is acting up , I thought , as I repeatedly pressed a button , but to no avail . I got up and plugged the phone into the charger again . No power . I went to unplug the phone from the charger and try another outlet . Then , I discovered that although the charger cord was in the phone , the charger was not connected to the electrical outlet . But then , with all connections intact , the phone lit up , and the battery sign came on . Immediately I learned a lesson . We read our Bibles and pray , but are we truly connected to the Source of life - giving power ? Are we grounded in and rooted in that Source ? Are we powered up to witness effectively ? I had been disconnected from the group , missing the prayers and the devotional . During that time , I felt powerless and defeated .

When I shared this experience , my friend Mandy encouraged me , saying , “ Write , Rubes , write ! Write about this powerful thought . ” The Holy Spirit was at work , for I had already thought about sharing this experience in writing the very moment I realized what had happened .

Ladies, I admonish us all to get — and stay — connected to the Source of our strength , God . He is able to keep us powered up as we study up and pray up every day.
