We Belong

Women · From the book Color my world with love

Verse:

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness . . . Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever. — Psalm 23:1 – 3,6, NKJV We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. — Psalm 100:3, NKJV

The house was vacuumed, the kitchen mopped , the toys picked up , and the clean clothes folded and put away . The smell of freshly baked bread wafted through the house .

At last , it was sundown , and our little family had gathered together to welcome the Sabbath . After reading about Jabel the shepherd from My Bible Friends and a chapter from the Bible, we knelt for prayer.

As was our custom, we ended our prayer time by reciting the Lord’s Prayer. I smiled as I heard our two - and - a - half - year - old daughter pray , “ For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the Laurie and the baby and the mommy and the daddy forever. Amen. ”

I thought , How true ! Whether we remember it or recognize it , we belong to Him . He created this world and everything in it ; we are His — no two ways about it . The Sabbath is a special reminder that we belong to Him .

The story of the shepherd tells us that we are His people and the sheep of His pasture . Too often, we worry ourselves out of His arms and try to make it on our own . I daily need to remind myself that I am one of the sheep of His pasture . I am loved and cared for, and I am here to follow my Shepherd and rest in His provision for me.
