Before I Called, He Answered!

Women · From the book Covered And Carried

Verse:

“Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear.” —Isaiah 65:24, NIV

I know it is true that God sends angels to protect us! One Monday my husband was driving me to work on the other side of the island.

To get there, you have to go over a mountain via a couple of tunnels, and then there is a hairpin turn near the bottom. On this day, traffic was particularly light. The road was almost eerily empty. And then it happened. While trying to negotiate the hairpin curve, a car on the other side of the road flipped over the divider! We couldn’t believe what we were seeing! Normally, there would have been several cars where this car landed, and there could have been more accidents as cars swerved while trying to avoid the overturned car and each other. If we had arrived at that point just a few seconds earlier that morning, we could have been hit by that car.

But praise God, it was a one-car accident, and the driver was able to get out of his car unharmed. The following Wednesday my husband was driving to his evening class on the freeway near our house.

Again, he saw a car flip over the divider just a little ahead of him! Again, only one car was involved, and the driver seemed unharmed.

The next week I was taking my usual morning walk around the neighborhood. As I was crossing the street in the designated crosswalk at the traffic light (when I had the walk signal), a speeding van nearly hit me. I had to jump back quickly to avoid being hit. It felt as though angels had lifted me and pulled me back.

A day or two after that, my husband and I went to a grocery store near our house. The traffic light was red, so we had to wait for it to change.

When it did, my husband started to turn.

At the same time, we heard a very loud engine.

Just as my husband managed to put our car in reverse to back up a little, a speeding vehicle blew past us! When we got to the grocery store, we just sat in the car for a few minutes, praying and thanking God that we had not been hit. In all these experiences, things had happened so quickly that I wasn’t able to pray for protection, but God granted it anyway. He is always watching over us! Praise God!
