The Audacity of God

Women · From the book Covered And Carried

Verse:

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.”—Isaiah 55:8, 9, NKJV

After my brother Ron passed away, I found one of his file folders filled with scraps of paper, each containing hastily scribbled notes.

Excitedly, I looked through the file.

He’d always been a man with a hundred thoughts boiling around in his brain at once, sparked by something he’d read, a sermon he’d heard, or a conversation with a friend. And here was a treasure trove of them, waiting to be explored further. It was as if we were once again enjoying another thought-provoking conversation! One oblong piece of paper especially caught my eye: “Audacity: a willingness to take bold risks in [an] unexpected way.” Below are his thoughts:

•Pharaoh said, “Throw all boy babies into the Nile River.” So God put baby Moses into the Nile and arranged for Pharaoh’s daughter to train him for God’s cause (Exodus 2).

•The Red Sea in front, Pharaoh’s army behind, Israel entrapped in the middle, and God says, “Stretch out your rod, Moses!” (Exodus 14).

•Locating Israel on the crossroad of the world, a chosen/favored nation; to bring blessing to all humankind (Deuteronomy 7:6; 26:16–19*).

•Sending a choir out to do battle (2 Chronicles 20).

•Then the most audacious, grace-filled plan of all.

God would send Jesus as a babe; to be born of a virgin and placed in a manger; shepherds were the first witnesses of His advent (considered to be unreliable witnesses in their courts; legally barred from testifying) (Luke 2).

I can’t wait till we get to heaven; Ron will probably spend the first hundred years getting all these stories firsthand!
