Verse:“I have told you all this so that you will have peace of heart and mind. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows; but cheer up, for I have overcome the world.” —John 16:33, TLB
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, with so many losing so much, I, too, had my own frustrations, especially during one week.
Waking up at three o’clock on a Friday morning, I rehearsed all that happened during the week and wondered how I was going to face the day with no solutions to any of the problems that had developed. A month before this, I had fallen, bruising my lungs, and I was still hurting. I had not been able to give our dog a much-needed bath, and she needed a haircut. On top of that, my clippers needed replacing.
I also needed to take her to the vet for an exam and necessary medication. But stores were closed, and nonessential businesses weren’t open. In addition, our computer wasn’t running smoothly and kept freezing up, so I needed to find someone to fix it. In the meantime, our bank called, saying there was a recurring charge to our account that we didn’t make. We were told not to use the charge card again, and new ones would be mailed. Soon after, when trying to make an appointment with my doctor, I found out the office was closed for the weekend.
When we received our mail, the thermostat we ordered online was the wrong one, so I had to contact the company and straighten that out.
Lord, where are You in all of this? I questioned.
It was so discouraging not to be able to do much of anything.
The house wasn’t getting cleaned, and I couldn’t fix much for meals. Lying around in pain was a new experience for me. It was overwhelming.
By the end of Friday afternoon, the Lord answered, I’ve been with you all day —busy solving your problems. And He did.
One by one, He sorted out what was important enough to fix immediately and what could be let go until the following week.
I was able to enjoy rest of mind and body over the weekend.
The good, the bad, and the ordinary —nothing in this world lasts forever, but in heaven, we will experience only that which is good.
