Verse:Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails. —Proverbs 19:21, NIV
Nearly every woman has dreamed about finding her “prince,” the one man who will sweep her off her feet and show her what true love is.
But when you have been hurt, used, broken, humiliated, and left feeling like damaged goods, pure love seems like a lie.
After two years of courtship, I found myself planning a wedding, even though something inside me left me feeling as if I were making a mistake.
But I was determined to do my own will, and I ended up shutting down God’s voice. One month before the wedding, I decided to go for a walk to clear my head. On my walk, I had a “come to Jesus” moment. I prayed and asked God to bless my marriage. I wanted my “happily ever after.” As I walked around the neighborhood, I heard someone calling my name. I stopped to look around, but I could not see anyone. I continued walking, but the Voice kept calling my name. After the third time, I stopped and responded, “What?” I concluded that God was trying to talk to me.
I leaned against a wall and said, “What, Lord?” The Voice responded, “Do not get married.” What? I was in shock. Everything was organized, and the invitations had been sent! The Voice responded, “I will be with you. Be strong, and don’t be afraid.” As I headed back home, I was not sure what to do.
I was scared and confused. Soon after that, I learned that my fiancé was seeing another woman. Looking back, I’m glad I trusted God and listened to His voice. Sometimes our pursuit of what we want blinds us. The Holy Spirit did provide courage and strength. And a year later, I received abundant blessings through the marriage I had dreamed of. This experience taught me that we must learn how to trust God’s voice and follow His instructions. Even when some decisions might be hard to make, we must trust our heavenly Father. All our desires must be aligned with God’s purposes, or we will fail. Only His love can complete us. His voice will never lead us amiss. We might think we know what is best, but we often do not. I am glad His plans for me prevailed. My advice: Let go and let God.
