Verse:Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. —Psalm 37:4, NIV
My husband and I were married at the age of twenty-three, which was perfect timing for us. We prayerfully decided beforehand that it would not be wise to have children in the first year of marriage. But we did not actively prevent pregnancy, and it never happened. At first, I was happy about that fact, but church members and friends questioned me, “When are you folks going to have children?” One member frankly stated, “Something must be wrong with you since you’re not getting pregnant.” I usually brushed off their inquiring eyes with a smile or an “I’m not ready.” Yet deep down inside, I began to wonder whether their pronouncements were true. What if I’m never able to experience motherhood? What if my husband is never a father? Such questions bombarded my mind. Eventually, I shared this situation with my mother. She advised me, “Take it to God in prayer but only when you are ready.” This talk with my mom calmed my fears, and I let it go. Sure enough, following the first year of marriage, I prayed and asked God to bless us with our first child. For encouragement, I read the story of Hannah. “And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head” (1 Samuel 1:11, KJV). God, I told Him one day, if You could do that for Hannah, You can do it for me. Months later, I noticed I wasn’t feeling like myself. After much prayer, I took a pregnancy test, which confirmed my suspicions.
I was pregnant! Nine months later, I gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Is there anything too hard for God? No! Today, if there is a mountain in your life that is insurmountable and you feel hopeless, trust God. He is a kind and ever-loving Father who is willing to listen and answer our prayers if we will only believe.
Why not trust Him today? He is able.
