Verse:I will … watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come. … Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith. —Habakkuk 2:1–4, KJV
My best friend, Yvonne, had taken a short travel assignment to California and was enjoying the beautiful weather and hospital where she was working. On her birthday, the Sabbath morning dawned sunny and beautiful.
She went to church but felt overwhelmed by loneliness, though the service was a blessing. As she exited the church, she wondered where God was in all her loneliness. As she stood alone with her heart hurting, a car pulled up carrying two ladies from the church. One of the ladies introduced herself and asked Yvonne where she was visiting from. Yvonne said that Orlando was her home. “Well, then, would you join us for a nice Sabbath lunch?” Not knowing the women, Yvonne was hesitant but, after exchanging pleasantries, accepted the invitation. During the drive, Yvonne shared a little about herself and that it was her birthday. At the lady’s house, Yvonne met other people from the church. Dinner was wonderful, and everyone was very friendly.
Yvonne was surprised to learn they were celebrating her birthday! She received a birthday cake and a gift! They even sang “Happy Birthday” to her! She was truly blessed because total strangers were thoughtful enough to celebrate her birthday with her! God had had it all planned, even when it seemed He hadn’t cared about her loneliness. My sisters, God cares about us, and He knows what our needs are.
At times, we may feel so alone with burning questions: God, where are You? Why am I alone? When am I going to get that job that I need? When are my children going to give their hearts completely to You? In those times, we must trust His wonderful promises and hold on to our faith that He will answer our prayers according to His divine will. We needn’t go on with all the questions because God has the answers for all the whys on our hearts. He will answer in His own time, not ours.
He loves us. The Lord wants us to keep praising and thanking Him, especially when it seems He is not answering.
He wants us to be grateful for who He is, not just for what He can do for us!
