God Winks

A friend of mine calls them “God winks.” I call them “God hugs.” They are the little things during your week when you recognize God did something for you because He cares and loves you. I believe God is winking at us all the time.

If we paid attention, we could each look back on this week and share where we saw God reveal Himself to us. In the small group I attend, we share the God winks we have observed. We call it “Word-of-Mouth Advertising for Christ,” and it is a time of sharing that builds our faith in Him. If we believe God is alive and active, it is perfectly natural as His followers to attribute situations and circumstances to His providence.

And this half hour in my small group has trained me to look for and recognize God winks. An example of a God wink is Elaine, a single mom who lives near me. My husband made a connection with Elaine through his roofing business and invited her and her two grown boys to our house for a meal. As we ate and interacted with them, our conversation led to God. We found that Elaine wanted to connect with God, but she didn’t understand the Bible. I told Elaine that I loved opening the Bible and reading it with others to understand better who God is. I invited Elaine to do that with me, and she said yes. For the last year, we have read through the Gospels of Matthew and Mark.

We are currently in John. Each week, she comes with a thirsty heart to know more and more about Jesus. What you may not know is that I had been praying for “thirsty” people for over a year. I desire to be a vessel to those who are seeking to know God. I desire so much for others to know Christ in all His glory and love and power! Before I met Elaine, I was at a discouraging point in my pastoral ministry and asked God, “Is there anyone who is truly seeking You?” And God winked and sent me Elaine.

What a double blessing it has been to meet weekly and learn together how beautiful Christ is. And since then, God has provided my heart’s desire in abundance; I am currently reading through the Gospels individually with six women every week. God has given me in abundance the desires of my heart.

And I know He will for you too.
