Verse:For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. —John 3:16, 17, KJV
I once read a folk story about a woman who borrowed her friend’s priceless pearl necklace for a Valentine’s Day ball. When she got home after the party, she realized the necklace was missing. She searched for it everywhere but couldn’t find it.
Terrified, shaken, guilty, ashamed, embarrassed, and confused, she decided not to confess it to her friend but instead stopped communicating with her.
She looked for a similar necklace and found it was US$100,000. Mortified, she sold her house and paid a down payment toward the necklace.
She moved out of state, far from her friend.
Being a person of integrity, she worked multiple shifts and jobs, day and night —working over sixty-five hours a week for fifteen years and was able to finally pay off the necklace. Nervously she visited her friend to return the necklace.
The years of toil had taken a toll on her body, and her friend did not recognize her. In utter disbelief, her friend asked her why she had not communicated with her. She told her that the necklace had been insured, and the insurance had already paid her in full. All those years of hard work, guilt, shame, and distance were not needed.
The debt had already been covered.
Sometimes when we make mistakes in our personal lives, we are terrified, shaken, guilty, ashamed, embarrassed, and confused.
In our guilt and shame, we hide from God instead of communicating with Him in prayer and confession. God in all His goodness has already paid the price; His cross insures our lives. His gift is priceless and is paid in full.
We just need to ask and claim our insurance, which is free of charge.
We need to show faith in our policy.
The Bible is our life insurance policy contract, which we need to carefully study daily. We sign this contract in faith.
And as we surrender ourselves daily in prayer and ask for forgiveness, in His mercy, He forgives us and redeems us from all unrighteousness, giving us the ultimate gift of life, a spiritual life insurance policy with eternal rewards.
