Verse:“Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.” —Matthew 5:5, NKJV
In today’s world, being sassy as a woman is admired.
Being able to “clap back” and “read” someone, especially as an African American woman, seems to be admired. But is this true beauty? In 1 Peter 3:4, Peter says that true beauty is having a quiet and humble spirit. This is what God admires the most. This is an important teaching, especially if you are a single or divorced woman looking to be married. The wisest man who ever lived said that it is better to live in a corner on a housetop than with a brawling woman in a mansion. Wow! I can admit that one of the main offenses in my first marriage was emasculating my husband, constantly reminding him of my degrees and spiritual acumen with my attitude.
This led him to seek honor in the arms of other women (not an excuse). Women need to understand that men need respect as much as women need to be loved and cherished. They need to be honored, which to them is love.
I had been a fool who tore down my house (marriage) with my own hands and mouth through a toxic cycle of dishonor, unkindness, and unloving acts.
Now, this saying might be hard for some to hear.
Many will take offense. The fear is that we will be taken advantage of and become a doormat. Remember that God is our Avenger, and He will take care of those who seek to abuse the meek. I, too, had a rebellious heart from childhood. I was naturally ambitious and had leadership qualities, which were good qualities that the devil wanted to skew. It was hard for me to accept authority figures because, deep down, I wanted to be the authority figure. But I realized that I needed temperance and meekness. I’ve learned that being meek does not diminish who we were born to be.
Jesus is meek and lowly in heart, and we need to be like Him.
Let us learn from Christ how to be meek and lowly in heart.
Let us take up our duties with cheerfulness, persistence, and dedication, seeing it as a great honor to serve others but, more important, to serve the God of the universe. Remember, the meek will inherit the whole earth!
