Verse:“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” —Isaiah 55:8, 9, NIV
Have you ever bought an outfit that was just a size too small? I haven’t done that (recently), but what I have found is that after the pandemic, my going-out outfits were just a size too small. (Friends, please make me feel better and tell me it’s not just me!) As the world opened back up and there were places to be that I needed to be dressed up for, I looked in my closet and realized that my dresses were just a bit too small. Yes, I could work toward my goal weight —but follow me, I’m going somewhere.
I tried to put them on, but they just didn’t fit well, and I was uncomfortable in them. So I went and bought a few new dresses because I had only a few days before a speaking engagement. As tempted as I was to buy the size I used to fit into, I knew that would not be wise. So I went ahead and reluctantly bought the next size up.
They fit well, and I felt confident as I was dressed for both work and speaking publicly. This was when the thought hit me, Stop trying to fit into things you’ve outgrown! Not just my outgrown outfits —but in any area of my life.
Sometimes, I am trying to squeeze myself into situations that no matter how much I want to fit, I just don’t. I need to realize that there are times that certain situations just will not fit —and that’s OK.
There have been times when God has called me out of work situations, and it was time to move on. There have been times when God has called me out of friendships and types of conversations that no longer fit, and as difficult as it may have been, I had to go. God knows exactly what He needs to strip from us so that He can take us on the journey that He wants us on. Is there any situation in your life that you are desperately trying to squeeze yourself into? It’s OK to reassess where you are —and move into the next growth phase.
