Verse:Our LORD, we belong to you. We tell you what worries us, and you won’t let us fall. —Psalm 55:22, CEV
The day I wrote this meditation, I was tired; I had not been out for two weeks. I was sick, and I was tired of being sick. I have a disease that doesn’t kill but has no cure. That day, I decided to read Psalm 55 (CEV), and it fit me like a glove because there you can see that David was also tired and sad: “Listen, God, to my prayer! Don’t reject my request” (verse 1, CEV). Sometimes we feel that God doesn’t listen to us, that He seems to be doing other, more important, things. The psalmist continued: “My heart is racing fast, and I am afraid of dying. I am trembling with fear, completely terrified” (verses 4, 5, CEV). I don’t know what worries you, what hurts you, or what scares you.
We all go through situations where we feel insecure, weak, and exposed and just want to escape—just like David, who said, “I wish I had wings like a dove, so I could fly far away and be at peace. I would go and live in some distant desert” (verses 6, 7, CEV). Although if I could choose, I would flee to a beach or a warm forest.
But the truth is that we can’t always escape from our reality, and that is why the best thing to do is face it. David knew this. “Morning, noon, and night you hear my concerns and my complaints” (verse 17, CEV).
This is the recipe that David shares with us: keep in touch with God, let our escape be with Him because He is the one who will save us, and at any time of the day when we speak to Him or sing to Him, He hears our voice.
And the chapter ends in a sublime way: “Our LORD, we belong to you. We tell you what worries us, and you won’t let us fall” (verse 22, CEV).
Bring everything that is hurting you, everything that is making you tired and sick, and give it to Him; He will take it and will accompany you, keeping you on your feet. I like to imagine that when you bring your problems, discomforts, or illnesses to Jesus, you give them to Him, He grabs them, puts them on His shoulder, and walks beside you. Today, let’s tell God, “Lord, I am tired; I leave everything at Your feet.”
