Showers of Blessing

Women · From the book New Every Morning

Verse:

“I will make them and the places all around My hill a blessing; and I will cause showers to come down in their season; there shall be showers of blessing.” —Ezekiel 34:26, NKJV

Recently I was rereading one of my favorite books, which, according to the Library of Congress, is the best book written on the life of Christ outside of the Bible. I had prayed previously about something appropriate to present to a group of women on the theme “Shower of Blessing,” which was a couple of weeks away.

As I read The Desire of Ages, two sentences jumped out at me. “From [Jesus’] earliest years He was possessed with one purpose; He lived to bless others.”* And “The atmosphere of hope and courage that surrounded Him made Him a blessing in every home.”† Jesus came as a shower of blessing to us —to the leper, the ill, the widow, the depressed and possessed— He came as a blessing and example to all.

Oh, that we might live to be a blessing to others each day.

A few days later, I was reading The Desire of Ages again, and I couldn’t believe that “showers of blessings” was used twice in the chapter I was reading, chapter 14. “All who are consecrated to God will be channels of light. God makes them His agents to communicate to others the riches of His grace. His promise is, ‘I will make them and the places round about My hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing.’ Ezekiel 34:26.”‡ A few paragraphs down, I read, “And he who seeks to give light to others will himself be blessed. ‘There shall be showers of blessing.’ ‘He that watereth shall be watered also himself.’ Proverbs 11:25.”§ So it looks like when we bless others, we will be blessed, and isn’t that just like God.

May we be a “shower of blessing” to someone today and every day.
