Healing Words

Women · From the book New Every Morning

Verse:

Like golden apples in silver settings, so is a word spoken at the right time. —Proverbs 25:11, NOG

People are very sensitive to the power of words.

Everything we hear has a big impact on the mind.

Words are not just details or letters thrown in the wind.

They have the power to destroy or build lives.

So it was with Telma, a passionate admirer of the arts.

Telma loved drawing and painting from the time she was little. Her talent did not go unnoticed by her mother, who always encouraged her to grow her gift. Aware that she needed to become even more skilled in the arts, Telma decided to enroll in a course for designers and painters. She started well and was satisfied with the new knowledge acquired. One day she came across an image that was difficult to execute. After several unsuccessful attempts, she asked for help from her teacher, who promptly said, “It seems that you don’t have as much talent as you imagined.

In fact, you don’t have any talent; look for something else to learn.” Those harsh words paralyzed Telma; what had given her so much pleasure seemed, after that, a great failure. The teacher’s bitter and unnecessary words destroyed her self-esteem, causing her to abandon art classes forever. Jesus’ words are different.

He offered encouraging words both to happy and excited people and to people hurt by the circumstances of life. Among so many emotional reports, we can remember the story of the suffering widow who had just lost her only son.

She was on her way to the cemetery to bury him.

Her soul was bleeding in pain; her tears reflected her broken and hopeless heart. But when Jesus saw her in such a sad moment, He was moved with compassion and said lovingly, “Don’t cry” (Luke 7:13, NOG).

Then He resurrected the young man and restored him to his mother. Tears were replaced by shouts of joy and words of gratitude.

In our time, good and kind words like those of Jesus are lacking. In a world powered by social networks without filters of kindness and purity, it is possible to make a difference. Words that bring life are more valuable than pure gold arranged in beautiful silver trays. They bring life and peace in the heart where they rest!
