A Beautiful Impact

Women · From the book New Every Morning

Verse:

Having then gifts differing according to the grace given to us, let us use them. —Romans 12:6, NKJV

Esther had many qualities that made her a great queen.

She was humble and listened to her family and God.

She had a loving, sincere heart for the welfare of her people.

She believed in the power of fasting.

She was willing to die for what she believed in, and she knew how to strategically execute a plan. Yet none of these fine qualities and more are why the king chose her to be queen. He chose her because she was beautiful.

Now before you turn the page, hear me out. If she wasn’t something good to look at, she never would have been able to use those other talents.

The king was drawn to her beauty. People all around Esther noticed her for her beauty. But it wasn’t just her outward beauty. She was gentle, helpful, and not demanding or mean. She was beautiful from the inside out. I believe that all women are beautiful. A woman’s beauty can be in her eyes or the way she throws her head back in laughter. God has given all women attractive qualities in some way, shape, or form.

He created us in His image, and He is beautiful.

We reflect some of His beauty to the world around us. I think we forget that. We try so hard at times to fit into a man’s world and think bringing beauty to our days and to others may lessen our ability to lead. Yet Esther’s beauty enabled her to make a difference —not for herself but for those around her, her people, the Jewish nation.

This reminds me that French women are taught that their femininity is an asset, not a liability. We can be just as hard-core as we are soft.

When Esther went before the king to save her people, she let her beauty open the door to the king —her outward beauty but also her gentle, servant heart that invited the king to dinner. The king was so impressed that he offered her up to half the kingdom. And when she asked for her people to be able to defend themselves, he granted her wish and had her enemy destroyed. Ladies, let us reveal God’s beauty to the world around us.
