Women · From the book New Every Morning

Verse:

“For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you have need all these things.” —Matthew 6:32, NKJV

I have had three occasions when the Lord stepped in and provided outfits that I needed for three different church functions.

When I lived in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States of America, the church choir was to sing in an Easter program. We were all to wear something purple.

I had no purple in the closet, and I had no job.

I did get a small monthly check for my personal use.

But where would I find an inexpensive purple outfit? While riding the bus one day, I saw a well-known thrift store. The next day I stopped at the store and went through the racks. I looked through rack after rack and saw no purple dresses.

I had one more rack to go. I looked through the last rack, and halfway through, I saw a purple dress. It fit perfectly! I praised the Lord —and I received many compliments when I wore the dress that Easter. “I got this through the Lord,” I told people. The second time, I lived near Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America.

I wanted to attend a women’s retreat and needed something dark green to wear. I prayed and then went to a couple of thrift stores.

Finally, at the last store, I was successful! I bought a dark green suit and went to that retreat, again praising God for providing. The third time, I lived in Arizona, United States of America, and sang in the choir. For the special women’s day service, everyone was to wear coral. I looked in my closet but did not have anything coral.

I had seen coral but never bought items of that color.

I looked at a thrift store on the corner and wondered if God would again provide. I prayed and went inside. The store was emptying because it was almost closing time. I quickly found a coral dress. Once again, there is a photo of me in that choir matching all the other members. “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?” (Matthew 6:28–30, NKJV). The Lord is good.
