Verse:Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. —Philippians 4:6, 7, NKJV
My last child was my miracle.
The pregnancy had been normal for the first four months, but on a routine check-up, the doctor noticed something like a black spot and that the baby’s movement was not normal. He referred us to a specialist immediately.
At that appointment, they told us news I will never forget —my unborn baby had incredible challenges.
They offered us several choices, including terminating the pregnancy.
My heart was heavy. I remember the ride home was silent —tears streaming down our faces. God seemed silent. Our hearts were broken as we cared for our two little boys and wrestled with the decision before us.
We called our parents to tell them the news, and my mother responded with a strong voice, “We are going to pray.” All I knew then was that I was tired and hurting so deeply. Everything around me seemed meaningless.
But the unborn baby inside me was breathing life, and the bond I had with him was unspeakable —I couldn’t explain it, but he was joy in the midst of the uncertainty. One night as I attempted to sleep, I remembered my God and who He is —that He is love; He is the Comforter, the Protector, the Provider.
I couldn’t pray, but I started to sing a song of praise and made a covenant with God. I asked Him to save my son’s life and take mine instead.
God would answer, but this death would not be physical. It would be dying to the things of this world and focusing on the Author and the Finisher of my life, God. The next day, our pastor came to pray with us.
He taught me to touch my big belly and speak life as we prayed for God to pour out mercy and grace upon my unborn child’s life.
I cried again —but this time with joy and praise to God.
I began praying scriptures and claiming them for my son. God’s words began to fill my thinking. I began to trust Him and His Word more.
God’s peace began to fill my heart and mind as I declared God’s Word over the life of my unborn child.
