God Paid for My Bus Pass

Women · From the book New Every Morning

Verse:

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. —Philippians 4:19, KJV

It was the last day of the month, and I only had money left for my monthly bus pass, which cost about US$148. I had about $60–$70 in the bank and about $70–$80 in cash. I made my way to the local 7-Eleven store to make my purchase.

You know you’re broke when you pay for something half in cash and half on a debit card! I walked up to the cashier to make my purchase.

“How would you like to pay?” he asked. “I’ll pay half in cash and the rest with debit,” I replied. The cashier took my cash and then punched in the key for the debit machine. I inserted my card and waited to input my pin.

I noticed that the number on the debit machine did not move or allow me to put in my pin. Then suddenly, the machine beeped, and a receipt came out.

“Do you want a receipt?” the cashier asked chirpily as he ripped the receipt from the machine. “But I didn’t punch in my pin,” I said to him, astonished and not sure what happened. It seemed like no money had been removed from my account. “Well, it looks like it went through to me,” he replied as he handed me the receipt. I was still in shock, so I went straight to the bank to see if the money was taken out of my account. Sure enough, the money I had left in my account for the remainder of my bus pass was still there. Whenever I think about that experience, I wonder if it was a glitch in the system or an issue with the debit machine that day.

Regardless, I know that there was divine intervention in the mix. God in His wisdom covered the cost of my bus pass, which allowed me to have money left over to purchase groceries and have food until my next paycheck.

Some people may question how God would have possibly paid for my pass through the debit machine, but for me, anything is possible when my heavenly Father owns the whole world and everything in it. The God I experienced that day knew what I needed before I even asked!
