Unspoken Prayer Answered

Women · From the book New Every Morning

Verse:

And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear. —Isaiah 65:24, KJV

After the recent death of my stepfather, there were just no ifs or buts about it: the most logical thing to do was to have my mom live with me.

This meant that her house had to be sold, her furniture had to be gotten rid of, and the whole house cleared out.

My mom could not assist in all this activity because she is ninety-five years old and has dementia. There just was not anyone to help.

Well, at least that was what I thought.

God, on the other hand, had other plans in mind for me. Day after day, I could see Him working in so many ways that it was just a bit overwhelming at times. However, there was one unasked prayer that He answered for me.

A dear friend who was visiting in another part of Florida offered me help the day before he flew back home. While planning for his stay, I thought it would be nice if I could get some green bananas to complement the ackee and saltfish that I planned to cook for our breakfast. The problem was that I did not have anyone to stay with my mom while I went to the store, and I certainly did not want to leave her alone while I went to get it. The following morning, while I was still trying to figure out how to get the bananas, my telephone rang. I answered it, and a friend who usually gets up quite late in the day was on the line. I inquired why she was up so early, and then she asked, “Would you be interested in some green bananas?” I could not believe my ears! Did the Lord just answer my unspoken prayer before I even got a chance to voice it? I gladly accepted her offer and shouted for joy! What a God we serve! He has promised that He will take care of us, no matter what. As the text says, He also has promised that He will answer before we call and hear even while we are yet speaking. Friends, trust Him where you cannot trace Him. He is there, waiting to help us even if we have not asked.
