Feeding a Multitude

Women · From the book New Every Morning

Verse:

“For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in.” —Matthew 25:35, NKJV

Dozens of people had come to Kukkia School Hall from all over the neighboring villages for the Sabbath service with the visiting education students from Pacific Adventist University (PAU), who were there for their annual curriculum Bible class retreat.

The meetings went well, and the message during the church service led many to recommit their lives to the Lord. Many had not attended any worship service for over three years since the missionaries from Adventist Frontier Missions were there to bring light and Christian lifestyle to them. After the service, everyone was invited to have lunch with the PAU students. They had prepared a pot of rice, a pot of sweet potatoes, two pots of soup, and a pot of greens.

This was enough for the forty-eight PAU students on retreat —but not for a multitude. Many of those visiting had not brought lunch with them even though asked to in the invitation. The students knew that without God’s intervention, the food would run out. Before serving, they stood around the pots of food and prayed that the Lord would bless every morsel to feed this modern multitude.

As they served, the containers from which they served never ran out.

As people helped themselves to the food, there were always plates of food on the serving table. God worked a miracle right before their eyes.

The girls counted the number of visitors —two hundred were fed that day! The forty-eight PAU students also ate lunch, and everyone was satisfied.

God had worked a miracle that Sabbath to honor the faith of these students who surrendered their lunch to feed the multitude.

The Lord reminds us to be considerate of others and to feed those who are hungry. By doing this, we are rendering that act of kindness to Jesus Himself.

Let us open our hearts to people and invite them to share whatever little we may have to benefit in the blessings and miracles that Jesus wants to work in our lives. May we be blessed as we engage in service for others.
