We Shall Have a Song!

Women · From the book He Knows My Name

Verse:

O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he has done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory. —Psalm 98:1, AKJV

Although we do not know the exact date of our Lord’s birth, when the month of December arrives, a spirit of anticipation takes hold of all of us.

With joy, we look forward to Christmas day.

These happy times always take me back to my childhood.

The Christmas music, the smell of candles, the beautiful ornaments, the poinsettias, the anticipation of visits from our families, always bring such gladness.

Making it even more wonderful, the church activities and sermons remind us that Jesus was born to save us. We shall have a song! I love the story of the nativity.

But, above all, I love the songs telling the story of Jesus.

They remind me of my mother singing while she worked in the kitchen.

She was of the Catholic faith before becoming a Seventh-day Adventist, and she would sing some of the Latin advent songs. In the evening, families would gather in a certain place in the neighborhood. Old songbooks were brought out, and we would sing to the accompaniment of instruments made from bamboo and fish lines—to the delight of us children. I inherited the love of Christmas songs from my mother. I love to sing and listen to carols and hymns. This practice warms my heart while keeping my mind on Jesus and His love for me.

Ellen White writes, “Singing is one of God’s entrusted talents to be employed to His glory.” Psalm 96:1, 2 tells us: O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth.

Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day (AKJV). Jesus came to earth because of His great love for us. Let us sing with instruments and voice and celebrate the matchless love and blessings God has showered over us.

We shall have a song! “Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name” (Hebrews 13:15, NKJV).

Amen!
