When Angel Hands Intervened — Part 1

Women · From the book Color my world with love

Verse:

The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him , and delivereth them . — Psalm 34:7, KJV

It was our first trip to large area - wide meetings in Montego Bay , Jamaica . We were a very new pastoral couple and had decided to carpool as that was the most economical practice in the seventies . Three other young church workers were traveling with us . “

This is going to be an exciting day ! ” exclaimed one of the passengers . We all agreed with the statement because the speaker for the youth rally was well known for his stirring presentations and was a favorite among young people .

We arrived safely at the meeting site and in good time . The amphitheater was buzzing with excitement , and the largely youthful audience was busy meeting and greeting one another . Although the meeting went on for several hours , no one was ready to leave when it was over . The youth leader had motivated , energized , and challenged the youth to return to their home churches and set their communities “ on fire ! ”

The five of us loaded back into our little compact car and started our journey back to our respective places of work . We were all excited about the great day we’d had . By the middle of our journey , the three passengers in the back seat had fallen asleep .

Then it happened ! Our car suddenly went out of control , careening from one side of the usually busy road to the other . “ Jesus ! ” I screamed , a one - word prayer .

In a split second , the car suddenly veered toward a high bank on the side of the road and then came to a complete stop . I believe an angel had intervened and taken the steering wheel , getting us off the usually busy road . Upon examination , we discovered that the right rear wheel had disengaged from the car because of a broken axle . Again , I thought , Only an angel !

The first person to arrive on the scene of our accident was a human “angel . ” We hardly knew him. Yet not only did he get us to his mechanic nearby but he also paid the repair bill on the spot and in full . “ Just pay me when you can , ” he said . “ I know you are young workers . ”

To this day, we call that corner “ angel curve . ” God had put us into the protective and caring hands of two angels in one day. Praise Him!
