No Worries, no Doubt, Just Trust God

Women · From the book New Every Morning

Verse:

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. —Isaiah 41:10, KJV

God, our Creator, knows that we are frail and easily frightened when faced with the vicissitudes of life. So, throughout the Bible, God reminds us, “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6, 7, KJV).

I think of the disciples who set the boat out to sail after a long day of Jesus teaching and healing the multitude. Jesus went to sleep, and all was at peace until “there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full” (Mark 4:37, KJV). The disciples, forgetting that Jesus was in the boat —that there was no need to fear— found Jesus and cried, “Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?” (verses 38, 39, KJV). In another story, there was a famine in the land.

God sent the prophet Elijah to the widow of Zarephath, saying, “I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee” (1 Kings 17:9, KJV).

Elijah, upon meeting this widow, requested that she make a little cake for him first, and then cakes for her and her son.

She hesitated because she had just enough flour and oil to make a cake for her and her son and feared that she and her son would die.

Elijah assured her that if she did as he requested, God had promised to provide. The flour and oil would last as long as they needed it.

They could trust Him and His promise.

So when our faith is being tested, our spiritual eyesight blinded, our stamina weakened, our emotions drained, we can stand on God’s promise that He will never leave us nor forsake us. He is our strong and sure refuge... a very present help in time of trouble.
